Comments after Hyperpole at Fuji

Fuji 14 September 2024

The 6 Hours of Fuji, the 7th event of the 2024 FIA WEC, will see the Ferrari AF Corse team’s 499Ps start in 7th and 12th positions, with Fuoco-Molina-Nielsen in car number 50 and Pier Guidi-Calado-Giovinazzi in number 51.

The Le Mans Hypercar number 83, entered by AF Corse and crewed by Ye-Shwartzman-Kubica, will start from 13th. Here are the comments following qualifying and the Hyperpole.

Antonio Fuoco, 499P #50: “It was a challenging day, as we saw in both qualifying and the Hyperpole. Several opponents have proved very competitive here at Fuji, and from the start of the week, we knew this race wouldn't be easy for us. The starting position isn’t ideal, but there are positives to take away: the team is doing an outstanding job, and we’ve made progress since the first two free practice sessions. Also, looking back to 2023, when we debuted here in Japan with the 499P, we’ve made progress. The 6 Hours will be difficult, but as always, we’ll give everything to achieve the best result possible.”

Antonio Giovinazzi, 499P #51: “We gave it our all today, but qualifying was highly challenging, and we didn't make it into the Hyperpole. Obviously, we’re not satisfied, but now our focus shifts to the race, which will be a tough test for our 499P.”
