Second row for the 499Ps at Portimão

Portimão 15 April 2023

The Ferrari 499Ps will start the 6 Hours of Portimão – round two of the FIA World Endurance Championship – from third and fourth place, after the qualifying session performances of cars no. 50 and 51 courtesy of Nicklas Nielsen and James Calado respectively. The race will be held on the 4.684-kilometre Portuguese track on Sunday 16 April and is set to get underway at 12 p.m. (local time).

The session against the clock, which took place on Saturday afternoon amid clear weather conditions and air temperatures above 25°C, saw the Ferrari - AF Corse team seal the best result thanks to the Danish driver, who registered a time of 1’31’’596 to earn third place on the grid for the 499P shared with Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina. The no. 8 Toyota will set off from pole position after producing a 1’30”171 marker.

In fourth position, 0’327 off the pace of their teammates, was Prancing Horse’s no. 51 Hypercar, driven in the fifteen-minute qualifying session by James Calado. The three-time LMGTE Pro class champion completed seven laps, setting a personal best of 1’31”923, which will allow the 499P, that the British driver shares alongside Alessandro Pier Guidi and Antonio Giovinazzi, to get the race underway from a favourable position.
