Positive Free Practice 2 for Ferrari 499Ps at Le Mans

Le Mans 08 June 2023

The first night session at Le Mans saw the Ferrari 499Ps close in second and eighth place in Free Practice 2 on Wednesday evening.

The number 51 Hypercar, with James Calado at the steering wheel, clocked a best time of 3’29”225, earning the Briton, who shares the Maranello brand’s car with Alessandro Pier Guidi and Antonio Giovinazzi, second place in the two-hour time trial that ended at midnight. Nicklas Nielsen posted a time of 3’30”086, 0”881 ahead of his Ferrari – AF Corse teammates. This puts the 499P number 50 crewed by Nielsen, Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina in eighth place in the standings. The number 6 Porsche was first to the chequered flag.

The second free practice session allowed the Prancing Horse drivers and technicians to continue fine-tuning the Hypercars ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the most eagerly anticipated race of the 2023 FIA WEC season. The programme on the track will continue on Thursday, 8 June, with Free Practice 3, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by the Hyperpole, from 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., and the fourth and final free practice session, from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. The green flag waves on Saturday, 10 June.
