The third free practice session on Friday morning at Spa-Francorhamps was held on a partially wet surface. The Belgian track hosts round three of the FIA World Endurance Championship. The Ferrari 499Ps ended the session in sixth and tenth position with crews number 50 and 51, respectively.
For the first time this season, the Maranello manufacturer’s Hypercars took part in an official round in light rain. The asphalt in some sectors of the Belgian track, where the weather is notoriously changeable, allowed the crews to test wet tyres in conditions that could recur during the afternoon’s qualifying.
The 60-minute timed session ended with the number 50 499P in sixth place courtesy of a time of 2’11”803 posted by Antonio Fuoco, at the wheel for the last three laps after Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen’s stints. The gap to the session-leading number 7 Toyota was 3”101. In the number 51 car, Antonio Giovinazzi stopped the clock at 2’14”305, taking turns in the cockpit with Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado. Both Prancing Horse cars racked up 21 laps.
The 15-minute qualifying session to decide the starting grid for the 6 Hours kicks off at 5.50 p.m. this afternoon. The race begins on Saturday 29th, at 12.45 p.m. (local time).
