Ferrari will start from the front row at the 6 Hours of Monza, round five of the FIA World Endurance Championship, with Antonio Fuoco setting the second-best time in qualifying in the 499P number 50. The Maranello manufacturer’s other Hypercar, the number 51 driven by Antonio Giovinazzi in the fifteen-minute timed session that decided the starting order, will set off four boxes further back.

Qualifying took place mid-afternoon with the sun shining in the Brianza sky. The air temperature was 31.8°C and the track temperature just under 50°C. The Ferrari – AF Corse team starred in front of a fine crowd, with the two Italian drivers applauded by the fans just 27 days after their triumph at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

After securing pole positions at Sebring, his season debut, and in France, Antonio Fuoco came close to a hat-trick with a time of 1’35”375, just 0.017 seconds behind the first-placed number 7 Toyota. The 27-year-old driver from Calabria completed six laps, leaving the 499P number 50, shared with Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen, in an excellent position going into the race.

At the end of a qualifying session in which the top nine Hypercars were bunched within less than nine-tenths of a second, Antonio Giovinazzi in the 499P number 51 clocked a best time of 1’35”771, securing the third row for a crew that also includes Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado, winner of the 24 Hours in June.

The green flag for the 6 Hours of Monza is at 12.30 p.m. on Sunday, 9 July (local time).
