As we approach the final round of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli UK 2024 season, the summer break provides an opportunity to reflect on an exciting season so far across the Trofeo Pirelli and Coppa Shell championships. The series will therefore return to the scene at Silverstone in mid-September.
After four rounds. Ferrari Challenge UK debutant Gilbert Yates (Charles Hurst) tops the standings in Trofeo Pirelli with an impressive 97 points placing himself ahead of fellow debutant Pranav Vangala (HR Owen) and Charles Hurst stablemate Andrew Morrow, who both tie for second place on 82 points. Yates has undergone a dramatic improvement since his first race at Brands Hatch back in April, ascending the podium 5 times, including 3 victories, to fend off Ferrari Challenge UK Trofeo Pirelli 2023 reigning champion Morrow. Debutant racer Vangala has also impressed with his approach, working diligently throughout his race weekends to secure 7 consecutive podiums. Haymandhra Pillai (Jardine Colchester) has also developed this season, culminating in a first ever podium in the final race at Donington Park last round.
In Coppa Shell, Robert Rees (Dick Lovett) has replicated his fine form from the backend of the 2023 season to deliver 3 consecutive race wins in the first 2 rounds, scoring 110 points overall. But newcomer and fellow Dick Lovett entrant Mike Dewhirst has quickly found his form in the series, winning at Oulton Park, Snetterton and Donington respectively to push Rees all the way and secure 94 points overall. Tied for third is returning Ferrari Challenge UK veteran Gary Redman (Graypaul Birmingham) and series newcomer Steve Dopson (Dick Lovett), who have both driven well this season to score 65 points apiece. Meanwhile, Stratstone Manchester driver Peter Hunter is close behind on 61 points as he looks to challenge for third spot at Silverstone. Darren Howell has also shown improvement this season and hopes to replicate the race pace which secured him a podium spot in the first round.
Next round. The final round of the Ferrari Challenge UK Trofeo Pirelli 2024 season takes place on 13-15 September 2024 at Silverstone. With the coveted championship trophy still undecided in both Trofeo Pirelli and Coppa shell classes, the stage is set for an exciting crescendo of racing action in the final two races.
