The first free practice session for the Las Vegas Grand Prix lasted a mere nine minutes before being cancelled because the concrete surround to a manhole cover came loose after Carlos Sainz drove over it, having to immediately park the SF-23 at the side of the track. When the session was stopped Charles was quickest in a time of 1’40”909 and Carlos had posted a 1’45”824. They each had time to complete just four laps.
