Maranello’s first HY-KERS hybrid. An extraordinarily ambitious project, combining an 800 hp V12 combustion engine with a 120 kW electric motor. Total power: 963 HP.
In crafting the LaFerrari, the engineers and designers drew on the pinnacle of Prancing Horse innovation. So much so, in fact, that the technical solutions used for this car ultimately filtered down to the Ferrari range in subsequent years. Despite having the same wheelbase and maximum overall length as the Enzo, the LaFerrari also incorporates the hybrid system and the dual-clutch F1 gearbox. In other words, the running gear of two cars is cleverly packaged in the same space as previously occupied by just one. All without impinging on cabin space, comfort or accessibility.
The LaFerrari delivered many firsts for a Ferrari road cars but perhaps the most notable are its debuting of the HY-KERS hybrid technology, which both maximises performance and reduces fuel consumption (just 330 g/km of CO2); dynamic controls integrated with its active aero package and the aforementioned HY-KERS system, and the digital instrument panel offering the driver a choice of configurations.
The result is a car that delivered performance levels completely unprecedented in the company’s history. In other words, the LaFerrari is the meeting point between sports car and F1 single-seater.
The LaFerrari’s overall silhouette remains true to Ferrari’s classic mid-rear longitudinal V12 sports car archetype: the cabin and engine compartment volumes are contained within the wheelbase to achieve the best possible balance of its masses.
